LOOTING DAMAGE AMOUNTS TO $100 MILLION IN KYRGYZSTAN

MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - According to preliminary estimates,
damage from looting in Kyrgyzstan on the night of March 24 amounts to
some $100 million, Director of the International Business Council David
Grant said.
The IBC notes positive changes in the security system of economic
facilities over the last three days, the Kyrgyz Kabar information
agency reports.
The IBC is a non-government organization of foreign investors working in Kyrgyzstan
Grant pointed out that the council offers assistance for maintaining
law and order, macroeconomic stability and the protection of the
banking system in the short-term perspective. For a longer period the
IBC is ready to help improve the legislative base, tax regime and
management in order to attract investment in the private sector,
modernize the judicial system and combat corruption.
The IBC agreed to invest $80 million in the republic's economy in 2005,
Grant remarked. Now the implementation of the decision is open to
question, because investors want to be sure in Kyrgyzstan stable
development and the government's rigorous compliance with assumed
obligations, the official was quoted as saying.
